There is praise in Washington for the transfer of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to the International War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague. President Bush says it's an important step by the new leaders in Belgrade. The president says the transfer of the former Yugoslav leader sends a message to all those who brought tragedy and brutality to the Balkans. He says they now know they will be held accountable for there crimes.

In a written statement, Mr. Bush says the decision by the government of Serbia is a strong sign of Belgrade's commitment to cooperation with the work of the tribunal. He says the United States is confident that cooperation will continue.
