Caption: Mast cell. A type of immune cell in lymph or connective tissues (related to basophils in the blood) that produces histamine. Is the one of the first defense mechanisms in an allergic reaction. Once the mast cells are sensitized against the foreign invader they can react more swiftly in the future when this foreign invader is present. Found in the skin, tongue, lungs and linings of the nose and intestine.
